The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston's (UTHSC-H) Clinical Research Unit is a multidisciplinary research facility funded cooperatively by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) through the Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences (CCTS), the UTHSC-H, and the Memorial Hermann Hospital(MHH). The Clinical Research Unit (CRU) is located in Memorial Hermann Hospital - Texas Medical Center (CRU at MHH). Two additional CCTS affiliated CRUs are located at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) and at the UTHSC-H School of Public Health campus in Brownsville, Texas (Brownsville CRU). The primary mission of the CRU at MHH is to provide a clinical research infrastructure to investigators affiliated with the CCTS. Projects can be investigator-initiated or industry-initiated and can have primary research funding from the NIH, Federal agencies, Federal institutions, or industry sponsors. The overall goal of the CRU at MHH is to support clinical investigations leading to improved understanding of disease processes, allow better methods of diagnosis and treatment, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and offer training in clinical investigation. The CRU at MHH is available to any UT, MDACC, Memorial Hermann faculty member, resident, and/or fellow who wish to perform clinical research in a controlled environment.
